Our Instructors

Jennifer is a barrister at the Tasmanian Bar. Fresh out of the Tasmanian Legal Practice Course, she was a Judge’s Associate in the Federal Court of Australia. She then went onto practice as a solicitor for over ten years, first at a national firm in Melbourne and more recently at Dobson Mitchell Allport in Hobart.

Amelia Higgs is the Unit Coordinator for the Family Court Practice and Advocacy unit. Amelia is a Principal at Dobson Mitchell Allport and specialises in family and relationships law. Amelia regularly and appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and is routinely appointed by the Court to represented young people in contested parenting disputes as an Independent Children’s Lawyer. Amelia is currently the Vice President of the Law Society of Tasmania and has served on its council since 2021. Amelia also sits on the board of Dress for Success Tasmania and is a proud community ambassador for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

Tessa Poulson is the Unit Coordinator for the Property Law and Practice Unit. Tessa commenced practice in 2009, graduating in 2008 from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws and completing her practical legal training with Tasmanian Legal Practice Course in 2009. After over a decade practising in the Huon Valley and a short break from practice, Tessa commenced with McMullen Lawyers in 2024. Tessa specialises in estate planning, corporate structures, trusts and business succession planning, and residential, commercial and rural conveyancing and transactions including leasing.

Matthew Pawson is the Unit Coordinator for the Commercial and Corporate Practice Unit. Matthew has over 20 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer in Hobart, Launceston, and Devonport, and is a Chartered Tax Advisor. Matthew has published extensively on legal practice management and frequently presents on GST and other commercial law topics. Matthew is currently a consultant with Rae and Partners in Launceston. He is a former director and National President (and now life member) of The Tax Institute. In 2021 he was appointed as Chair and director of Enriched Care Solutions, an NDIS support provider company in Launceston, and in 2023 was appointed as the Asia Pacific Regional Director of the J Reuben Clark Law Society. He was also recognised by his peers in Doyle’s Guide in 2022 as a leading Tasmanian corporate and business lawyer.

Philippa Morgan is the Unit Coordinator for the Magistrates Court Practice and Advocacy unit. Philippa has extensive experience working in the criminal justice system in Tasmania, both as a criminal defence lawyer with Tasmania Legal Aid and as a prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions during her career. Philippa has been practising as a Barrister at Liverpool Chambers since 2014.

Scott Knuckey is the Unit Coordinator for the Trust and Office Accounting Unit. Scott is a partner at Scanlon Richardson Financial Group, Hobart and specialises in taxation, and corporate tax compliance. He provides specialised instruction regarding the legislative and compliance requirements for trust and office accounting in Tasmania.
